Summer Power Suit

I saw a woman in a two-tone vest like this one from United Bamboo and have been dying to overhaul my summertime corporate wardrobe with sleeveless blazers. If I didn’t have to pay rent, this is how I’d do it:

Good looking overalls

Overalls are back – see exhibit A, an off-duty model in a pair of Stella McCartney ones that I am positive I owned in 6th grade. Combined with a bowl cut and braces, or just plain old D.J. Pliner bandage heels, overalls add a certain je ne sais quoi that I have missed over the past 14 or so years since it has been socially acceptable to wear them.

I found a pair of olive green vintage overalls a few months ago at a consignment shop. They are at least 3 sizes too big on me but they were French and $30 so I snapped them up and I’ve been wearing them NONSTOP! Like the much-hated and over-worn romper of 2010, overalls are polarizing and I think that’s why I love them even more. When in doubt, buy high end and pair with silk and a serious bag – no one will question your judgement, and who can argue with all those pockets?!

Summer Leather

It’s 80-something and my apartment is barely air conditioned but I am sitting here shopping on eBay for distressed leather jackets. If I was OK with shoplifting or not paying rent, I’d already own these Phillip Lim leather overalls (photo via Glamour). My other favorite leather look is a circa ’90s Kate Moss (photo via Stylelist) in a beat up, shrunken jacket and neutral basics.

Jorts

Sometimes when I am bored, I Google Alexa Chung’s outfits. I don’t know what it is about her, but she has a way of making socially unacceptable articles of clothing look amazing. Today’s inspiration: jorts + silk blouse + leopard booties + unkempt hair.
