One plaque and lots of wood glue later, my little deer antlers are hanging from my wall, as proudly as if I caught that lil’ guy myself. Voila!

For some reason I feel guilty about loving how great this dead animal head looks hanging from my wall, but have no problem with my vast collection of leather shoes, bags, and jackets.

But not the headband kind – I’m talking about the Real Deal. On a recent trip down south, I was talking to a very nice man about how I wanted to go hunting to get my own pair of real antlers. The good (or bad, depending on your opinion of Bambi) news was that this guy had hundreds of antlers in a shed in his backyard so he just went ahead and gave me a ready-made pair of real antlers.

I got into a little DIY project on how to mount them on the wall of my tiny studio – after a few trips to home improvement stores and Walmart, and lots of wood glue later, I think I’ve almost got it.
Here’s my inspiration:

Sometimes I fall in love at the store and buy things that end up sitting in my closet because I have no idea how to wear them. Here’s a case study in that: I bought a white lace dress by Barney’s New York Co-Op on clearance, had no idea how to wear it, and let it sit in my closet with the tags on.

The cure for a never-worn dress? Take it on vacation when your options are limited (like that old saying about necessity breeding invention – it’s so true when traveling). I took the dress on a trip to North Carolina this weekend and ended up pairing it with an otherwise ugly utility jacket and my loved-to-death elastic cage heels. Voila, style genius!

Chloe is a genius – I love how simple and unfussy this looks, and I already have all of these things in my closet – I just never considered showing off my clogs with ankle-length pants! It is so simple and tossed together but it works so well. The cat-eye frames and pop of bright lipstick look great with this simple, basic outfit.
