It was a chilly weekend in North Carolina but luckily for me I had my favorite high-waisted jeans handy to keep me warm! Actually, these were the only warm clothes I had – all I brought with me was my swimsuit and a sundress that I sadly never got to use. Either way, this outfit carried me through a weekend filled with mini golf, lobsters, pre-marriage counseling, Sunday brunch and an attempted (but failed) walk on the beach (it was closed – luckily it was cold). The trick to not getting smelly? Old Spice.

Best quote of the weekend, from a little boy to a nice old lady: ‘Have an immoral day,’ which I assume is a mispronunciation. I hope she did have an immoral day!

The trusty mom jeans are Prps, Vince tee, Madewell bag (that I shamelessly copied from this girl), and Nine West sandals. var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push([‘_setAccount’, ‘UA-46889504-1’]); _gaq.push([‘_setDomainName’, ‘thestyleheist.blogspot.com’]); _gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’]); (function() { var ga = document.createElement(‘script’); ga.type = ‘text/javascript’; ga.async = true; ga.src = (‘https:’ == document.location.protocol ? ‘https://ssl’ : ‘http://www’) + ‘.google-analytics.com/ga.js’; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(‘script’)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })();

The only reason I started juicing is because Gwyneth does it – and because last summer’s pants are a little too tight (juicing is a great get-fit-quick trick). I’ve spent many lonely nights alone in a Marriott with my juicer, liquefying bales of kale and baskets of fruit and keeping my neighbors awake. It is no easy feat to turn a salad into a smoothie and make it taste good.

That is, until I decided to start taking some shortcuts and give housekeeping a break from cleaning bits of broccoli off the walls of my hotel room. The latest and greatest recipe: Odwalla pre-made juices (which I normally avoid to because they have too much fruit and sugar) + spinach, broccoli, kale, or other green vegetable. Mix 1/4 cup of Odwalla with 2 c. of liquefied vegetables. It almost tastes delicious. var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push([‘_setAccount’, ‘UA-46889504-1’]); _gaq.push([‘_setDomainName’, ‘thestyleheist.blogspot.com’]); _gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’]); (function() { var ga = document.createElement(‘script’); ga.type = ‘text/javascript’; ga.async = true; ga.src = (‘https:’ == document.location.protocol ? ‘https://ssl’ : ‘http://www’) + ‘.google-analytics.com/ga.js’; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(‘script’)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })();

This weekend I hired my friend + talented photographer Andrew to take engagement photos, figuring that Wes and I could use a few good pictures given that our all-time favorite photos of us together involved an adult male dressed as a turkey, and adult female dressed as Stanley Tucci, or the Olive Garden (these were my three options to send photo save-the-dates, and none made the cut thanks largely to my better judgement and the urging of the saleswoman at the print shop).

We decided to head out to Loudon County, Virginia for the shoot, starting at Fabbioli Winery – it’s a place where we’ve spent many lazy Sundays escaping D.C. and debating whether it was fair that Wes was the default designated driver because of his body weight advantage. Needless to say, it was the perfect spot for the photos and the only time I’ve left Loudon County as the driver.
I’m wearing a Vanessa Bruno dress, vintage cowboy boots and earrings (the most country outfit that I own).

Below, when we decided it was time to go home:

This outfit reminded me that a leopard scarf is the only leopard print piece of clothing that my closet is lacking so I instantly bought one. Debra made her leopard scarf cool by keeping everything else simple and inspired me to add some interest to basic black outfits.
Some cool leopard scarves at Missselfridge, Target (love the oversize, roll it up into a scarf) and Tilly’s.

Ever since I saw Elle’s lion’s head necklace, I’ve been wanting one for myself! It looks so perfect paired with a long pendant and worn with a simple outfit. So 1995 and fabulous. It sent me on an eBay hunt for doorknocker necklaces and big cat jewelry. I found some awesome pieces like this necklace, and these earrings, but have yet to commit… var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push([‘_setAccount’, ‘UA-46889504-1’]); _gaq.push([‘_setDomainName’, ‘thestyleheist.blogspot.com’]); _gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’]); (function() { var ga = document.createElement(‘script’); ga.type = ‘text/javascript’; ga.async = true; ga.src = (‘https:’ == document.location.protocol ? ‘https://ssl’ : ‘http://www’) + ‘.google-analytics.com/ga.js’; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(‘script’)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })();

Remember that wine, cheese, an a good laugh are all anyone really wants.” Great advice for making people happy and for planning a good party – and in my case, planning a wedding (my most productive planning has involved wine, cheese, and funny people). Thanks to  designer Celerie  Kemble for the quote and image of her urban garden 27 stories above Central Park (I have two of those same yellow bistro chairs in my own urban garden: A 3’x5′ balcony 3 stories above my parking lot). More advice on happiness, entertaining, and being amazing can be found in this recently released book that I just bought about cool designers in their natural habitats.
